RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — State lawmakers approved funding for Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) to build a new dental school and acquire the Altria building for nearly $700 million.
The funding, finalized as part of the newly finalized state budget on Monday, June 29, includes nearly $230 million to acquire the Altria Center for Research and Technology and $445 million to build a new dental school.
“We are profoundly grateful to the General Assembly and Governor Spanberger for their support and transformative investments in the Altria Center and a new facility for VCU’s School of Dentistry,” said VCU President Michael Rao in a June 29 press release. “These facilities represent a shared strategic commitment to advancing Virginia’s health and innovation economy.”…
