HOPEWELL, Va. (WRIC) — As dangerous heat hits Central Virginia, the city of Hopewell is adapting its overnight shelter into a 24-hour cooling station to help residents beat the heat during the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

City officials announced on Wednesday, July 1, that the normal overnight shelter, located at 110 South 10th Ave. in Hopewell, is being temporarily adapted to operate as a 24-hour cooling shelter for anyone who needs relief from the heat.

This location, which typically serves as the city’s overnight shelter for those experiencing homelessness, will remain open 24 hours a day through 8 a.m. on Sunday, July 5.
