The Medina High School Speech and Debate Team delivered an impressive performance at the National Speech & Debate Association 2026 National Tournament, held June 14-19 in Richmond, Virginia, earning national honors and continuing the program’s tradition of excellence.
In Congressional Debate, Medina qualified four students for the national tournament: Alysia Aldea, Kaitlyn Cline, Kaylee Chalmers and Lincoln Marks. Marks was unable to compete after accepting a prestigious internship with the Cleveland Clinic. The team also was represented by Mason Heibert, whose legislation was selected for inclusion on the official national tournament docket, earning him national recognition.
Competing against more than 500 Congressional Debate students from across the country, Aldea earned a second-place national finish, making her the National House runner-up. Cline advanced to the semifinal round, placing 29th overall, while Chalmers reached the quarterfinal round and finished 127th overall…
