Curious Commonwealth asks: Why does Virginia only have 2 natural lakes?
Throughout the summer, we’ll be featuring some of our favorite pieces from Curious Commonwealth, VPM News’ series exploring the questions that you (and we!) have about what makes our state so interesting.
First up is Richmonder Kirk Millikan’s question from last summer about why nearly all of Virginia’s lakes are man-made — which sent the Curious Commonwealth team on a quest that led southwest to one of the state’s two naturally-formed lakes: Mountain Lake in Giles County, which you may recognize as the primary filming location for the 1987 movie Dirty Dancing.
