BHMVA to host ‘A Compromised Freedom: 250 Years of Black Life in Virginia’

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — As part of the Black History Museum & Cultural Center of Virginia’s (BHMVA) VA250 programming, the museum will host an event on Thursday that highlights the lives and legacies of John Mitchell and Maggie L. Walker.

“A Compromised Freedom: 250 Years of Black Life in Virginia” will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 16, at the BHMVA, located at 122 W. Leigh St. in Richmond.

Attendees will be able to explore the impact of John Mitchell Jr. and Maggie L. Walker on journalism, civil rights and community leadership, followed by a reception with light refreshments and take-home educational activities for families…
