VDH weighs in on Code Red air quality alert

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — It was hard to miss.

The Super Doppler 10 weather team said Friday there was no overcast in the sky above Hampton Roads, yet the skies were still gray due to the wildfire smoke, its haze appearing to get worse the further you drive inland, with air quality measuring far worse in places like Richmond.

Cassandra Gabbert, toxicology health expert with the Virginia Department of Health, said the level of air quality we’re dealing with can be unhealthy for everyone, even healthy people.
