RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Richmond Police Chief Rick Edwards cautioned Central Virginians about safe firearm use less than two days before the city’s next reckless shooting.
Chief Edwards gave the city’s mid-year crime report on Thursday, July 9, saying there were 24 reckless shooting cases in the first six months of 2026 at the time. Chief Edwards described reckless incidents as whether gun owners accidentally shot themselves or whether owners were cleaning their guns and a round fired from the chamber. Suicides are not counted.
