Richmond nonprofit weighs in on housing options for Darby House fire victims

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A Richmond nonprofit is sharing resources for the more than a dozen Darby House Senior Apartment residents staying in hotels.

Just after 10 p.m. on Saturday, July 4, a fire broke out at the Darby House Senior Apartments on Shirleydale Avenue in Henrico County, putting multiple people in the hospital and leaving dozens of residents without a home, but 67 decided to stay in hotels.

As of Tuesday, Aug. 11, 13 residents remain in hotels. However, rising rental costs are limiting some from finding more permanent homes…
