RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Richmond Public Schools is partnering with the Richmond Education Association and the Richmond Fire Department to take some of the financial pressure off of teachers. RFD CARES is a new program helping teachers get CPR certified for free.
Teachers are required to get CPR certified every two years. Ashley Bland, a teacher and leader pathways specialist for RPS, said CPR trainings can cost between 40 and 80 dollars. Bland said this may not sound like a lot, but there are lots of other training fees to keep being a teacher.
“It’s just always beneficial to have the skill set because you never know what’s walking in your classroom,” Bland said. “To be prepared is an essential tool, but also to provide this training at no cost and to partner with entities across the city.
