On screen, Djimon Hounsou has played a gladiator, a wizard and the Ancient Egyptian deity Horus, but on Friday he played a very different role: promoter of Run Richmond 16.19.
During the unique sporting event, runners, joggers and walkers pass by sites that were once central to Richmond’s role in the transatlantic slave trade. In honor of 1619, the year that the first enslaved Africans arrived in Virginia, the event runs 16.19 kilometers, or roughly 10 miles.
