RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) – The former leaders of the Shoosmith Landfill – Fred Nichols and Paul McGee – were indicted earlier this week on multiple charges and are listed as fugitives, according to court records.
There have been concerns over a potential environmental catastrophe at the private landfill, which filed for bankruptcy in June 2025.
The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality said between 20,000 and 100,000 gallons of landfill leachate is removed from Shoosmith Landfill each day.
