On Sept. 24, 2011, Henrico County continued its 400th-anniversary observances with a Civil War commemoration at historic Tree Hill Farm on Osborne Turnpike.
The event, part of the three-day “Henrico County: Gateway to Richmond, 1861-1865” program, included living-history demonstrations, exhibits and a ceremony honoring Medal of Honor recipients for valor on Henrico soil.
Tree Hill’s history made it a particularly significant setting. The property had been used for troop recruitment early in the Civil War and later became associated with Richmond Mayor Joseph Mayo’s ride to surrender the city to Union forces in April 1865…
