RICHMOND, Va. — Richmond police are warning Honda owners about a string of car thefts in the Woodland Heights neighborhood, where investigators believe thieves may be using electronic devices to unlock and start vehicles without a physical key.
In the past week, five Hondas have been reported stolen in Woodland Heights. Officers have also spotted four reported additional Hondas in other areas of the city. The stolen vehicles include seven CR-Vs and two Accords.
Detectives believe thieves are using an electronic device to gain access to the cars. AAA says the most common method is a relay attack, which involves thieves using an antenna to pick up a key fob signal, even if the fob is inside a home. The process can take less than 60 seconds…
