Jury trial set for man accused of shooting Henrico police officer, attempted armed robbery

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A Richmond man accused of shooting a Henrico police officer after an attempted armed robbery appeared in court today with a jury trial set for later this year.

Michael Allendor Byrd, 23, is charged with attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, entering a dwelling with intent to commit robbery and two counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Around 7:40 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 29, officers were called to the area of Williamsburg Road and Brittles Lane for a reported attempted robbery.

According to police , a man — now identified as Byrd — entered a business in the area and demanded money while displaying a firearm.

Police also accused Byrd of abducting an employee and attempting to rob another employee, however, his two charges for abduction have since been dropped.

When officers arrived at the scene, they reportedly identified Byrd before he ran away. Officers gave chase and, upon reaching the 4800 block of Hillbrook Avenue, Byrd allegedly fired shots at the officers.
