New details released in third-party report of Huguenot High School graduation shooting

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Almost a week after the results of a third-party investigation into last year’s Huguenot High School graduation shooting were released by Richmond Public Schools (RPS), an additional testimony has been added.

The report , completed by the Sands Anderson law firm, now includes a new interview transcript with RPS Superintendent Jason Kamras. The transcript was added on Tuesday, Jan. 25, after school leaders learned it was “inadvertently left out of the exhibit,” according to school officials.

In the new 20-page transcript, Kamras tells investigators that there were different interpretations of the home instruction manual as policy or just suggested practice. He also admits he did not take a close look at the policy until after the incident.

The third-party report was released on Wednesday, Jan. 17, outlining several failures from school and security staff leading up to the shooting on June 6, 2023, in which seven people were injured and two, 18-year-old Shawn Jackson and his stepfather Lorenzo Smith , were killed outside the Altria Theater.
