Man previously accused in Richmond mass shooting plot sentenced, could be deported

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A man previously accused of plotting an Independence Day mass shooting in 2022 was sentenced in federal court for a firearm charge on Thursday, Jan. 25.

According to court documents, Julio Cesar Alvarado Dubon has been sentenced to 16 months in prison for possessing a firearm while in the country illegally .

Following his sentence, he will be transferred into the custody of Booked Immigration Customs Enforcement for a deportation hearing.

A spokesperson for the court said it is not yet known if Dubon will be credited with time already served, or if any of these 16 months will be served in addition to the months already spent in custody. The Department of Justice will make a decision on this after receiving Dubon’s sentencing and doing its internal calculations.

Dubon previously pled not guilty to this charge in August 2022. However, two months later in October 2022, he entered into a plea agreement.
