Social media & Steel Reserve help in stolen healthcare van case in Stafford

Posts on social media helped Daily Planet Health Services gets its mobile health van back.

According to Daily Planet, the van was stolen from a repair shop off of Arthur Ashe Boulevard in Richmond early in the morning on Saturday, January 20th.

Turning to social media

The organization, which provides health services to groups such as the under- and uninsured, started posting about the incident on Facebook, including updates of where the vehicle was last seen and when.

“The loss of this vehicle disrupts Daily Planet Health Services outreach and street medicine programs…” the organization wrote on one post that urged anyone who saw the van to call 911.

On January 25, a Stafford resident did just that. He called SCSO and said he saw a van that was reported stolen on social media.

Daily Planet said the man also called them. They called other businesses in the area to confirm the van’s location. And then they also called 911.

Van found

Deputy S.C. Martin was dispatched to the old Carlos O’Kelly’s restaurant at 2860 Richmond Highway shortly after 1 p.m., SCSO reported. He found the van unoccupied and called backup to help canvas the area.
