Richmond Police Department warns the public of telephone scammers posing as officers

The Richmond Police Department is warning people of telephone scammers pretending to be police officers, according to WRIC 8 News.

According to the department, scammers are calling people using a Richmond Police sergeant’s name to claim they have outstanding warrants and demanding payment through cash apps to resolve the warrants.

The warning

The warning comes after a Richmond Healthcare worker was scammed out of $8,000 following a phone call where two people pretended to be Richmond Police third precinct officers.

The Richmond Police Department is asking individuals who may receive these phone calls to not send any money in response because they are scams. The public is reminded that the Richmond Police Department will not call individuals to collect payments in any form.

Not sure you have a warrant on file?

People who know they don’t have a warrant should not be scammed. Those who are not sure if they have an outstanding warrant on file can go to the Richmond Police Department’s Headquarters, located at 200 W. Grace Street, or any Richmond Police precinct to inquire.
