Eight people displaced after large fire spreads through Richmond home

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Richmond Fire and EMS crews responded to a large house fire in the city’s Northside that left eight people displaced.

On Sunday, Jan. 28 at around 1:30 p.m., Fire and EMS crews responded to a structure fire on Pelham Drive. When they arrived on scene, they saw large smoke and flames coming from a home.

According to officials, the homeowner had reported the fire when they saw flames coming from the home’s water heater. The fire was found to have spread to the crawl space outside, and crews had to open the floors of the home to extinguish the fire.

A total of 38 personnel responded to the fire and were on scene for about an hour until it was marked clear.

The fire has displaced four adults and four children, according to officials. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
