Woman charged in connection with single-vehicle fatal crash

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – A woman has been arrested in connection with a single-vehicle crash on Saturday morning that left a woman dead.

According to officials, police were notified on Jan. 27 at approximately 4:38 a.m. of a single-vehicle crash in the 6900 block of Chesapeake Boulevard. Police arrived on scene to find a car had collided with a concrete pole and caught fire.

The passenger of the vehicle, 29-year-old Tynisha D. Southerland of Portsmouth, was transferred to a local hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

Police say the investigation led to the driver, 29-year-old Jamika P. Ellis of Richmond, to be charged with involuntary manslaughter DUI related.

Ellis is being held at the Norfolk City Jail without bond.
