Pedestrian killed on South Crater Road in Petersburg; driver charged

PETERSBURG − A pedestrian was killed Saturday afternoon after he was hit by a car in front of Blandford Cemetery.

Emmanuel Benjamin, 44, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. He was hit around 4:30 p.m. at the intersection of South Crater Road and Windham Street.

Police have charged Trevonn Shipp, 28, with involuntary manslaughter, reckless driving and window-tint violations.

Factors that led to the accident have not been released yet.
