Richmond SPCA to hold annual Dog Jog, 5K and Block Party in March

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — For the 22nd year in a row, the Richmond SPCA’s annual Dog Jog, 5K run and Block Party will return to the city in March, bringing live music and plenty of activities for dogs and their humans.

The nonprofit provides medical care for pets and other services for their owners, including low-cost veterinary care, a free behavior helpline, training classes and humane education for children.

A spokesperson said the event will be held at the nonprofit’s humane center on Saturday, March 23. The following is a timeline of the event’s activities:

  • 5K, 10 a.m. (people only)
  • Little Paws Kids Fun Run, 11 a.m. (free for kids between the ages of 4 and 10)
  • 1-mile Dog Jog, 11:30 a.m.
  • Free Block Party, noon to 5 p.m.

The nonprofit says the block party will have a marketplace with more than 50 local vendors and artisans, food trucks and alcoholic drinks. Admission to the block party is free.

“With everyone’s help, we’ll meet our goal of raising $207,000 at this year’s Dog Jog, 5K and Block Party,” said Richmond SPCA Chief Executive Officer Tamsen Kingry.
