A hunter shatters a community
The Hollywood deer was a buck who got his name because he was frequently seen in the famous Hollywood Cemetary in the Oregon Hills area of Richmond, Virginia. He was a local legend of sorts and the community loved him but in December he was killed by a hunter.
WDBJ 7 is reporting that Jason Walters, 36, was arrested on Sunday, January 28 after an investigation. The Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources says Walters exposed his deed when he shared photos of himself with a “non-typical 29-point buck on the Star City Whitetails Facebook page.
He claimed to have harvested the deer in Prince Edward County, Virginia, using a muzzleloader. Sharp-eyed members of the hunting and wildlife communities recognized the buck as the Hollywood Cemetery deer and reported Walters to the DWR.
More charges are pending
The massive deer was well-known for its large and distinctive antlers. It may have been able to roam the cemetery for many more years but that opportunity, was taken away. WDBJ also reports that Allen Proffit of Richmond (age 36) is facing possible charges as an accomplice.
