Beloved Richmond ‘gun hole’ filled with concrete, then carved out

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — In a strange turn of events, the Richmond “ gun hole ” — a small indent in a South Addison Street sidewalk in the shape of a gun — was filled with concrete Wednesday afternoon, though it appears the concrete has been scooped out of the hole.

On Tuesday, Jan. 30, the hole was seen adorned with coins, notes and other offerings.

Many have speculated the sidewalk impression has been there since the 1990’s, but around noon on Wednesday, Jan. 31, 8News crews returned to the site, and observed that the hole had been filled with concrete, which was still wet.

8News reached out to the Richmond Department of Public Works to inquire if it had filled the indent, though the Department has yet to respond.

At 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, the concrete that had been used to fill the “gun hole” appears to have been scooped out, with its original gun shape entirely intact. The question as to who had removed the concrete from the indent is not yet known.

This is a developing story. Stay with 8News for updates.
