Unusual activities surrounding the imprint of a gun hole on the sidewalk in Richmond, Virginia

Crews from WRIC 8 News have been keeping an eye on a “gun hole” on a sidewalk in Richmond, Virginia and documenting the unusual activities surrounding it.

Timeline of the gun hole activities

The hole in the shape of a gun was discovered on a South Addison Street sidewalk between West Cary Street and West Main Street in the Fan neighborhood. People from all over the city have gone to see it after a photo of it was posted to X on Friday, January 26, 2024, by Brock Cass, who lives right next door to the gun hole.

Cass said:

“Just coming back from my car one day, seeing the hole and thinking, ‘Wow, this is perfect. It’s so cool that I have something like this here in Richmond.’ So I just took a picture, not thinking much of it.”

Cass didn’t realize the post would be an overnight sensation – reaching almost 2 million views on X.

By Tuesday, January 30, the hole had been filled with coins, trinkets, notes, and other items.

On Wednesday, January 31, the hole was filled with concrete that was still wet. By 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, the concrete that had been used to fill the “gun hole” had been scooped out, with its original gun shape entirely intact.
