RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A Henrico County man has been arrested and charged after police say he ran a red light and struck a pedestrian with his truck on West Broad Street in Richmond before leaving the scene.
According to police, on Wednesday, Feb. 7 at around 8:45 a.m., officers responded to a report of a pedestrian hit at the intersection of West Broad Street and North Lombardy Street in Richmond.
Officers arrived at the scene and found a man who had been hit by a pickup truck, the victim was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
According to police, investigators determined that the pedestrian was walking across West Broad Street at the crosswalk when 71-year-old Garland Childress of the Sandston area of Henrico disregarded the red light, hit the pedestrian and drove away without stopping to help.

Investigators found Childress shortly after the incident, they arrested and charged him with hit-and-run, with additional charges pending.
