RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A fox was rescued by a family in Richmond after they took it to a veterinary center for treatment of mange.
On Dec. 1, 2023, a family from Richmond brought a juvenile Red Fox to the Wildlife Center of Virginia.
According to Center staff, the family had seen the fox on their property a month before and “could hardly tell it was a fox.” The family bought a humane trap and, once the fox was captured, they quickly transported it for treatment.
“On admission, the veterinary team determined that the young fox had a severe case of sarcoptic mange,” a spokesperson with the Center said. “Not only had the fox lost roughly 60% of its fur, but he was also emaciated, dehydrated, and had several open wounds on his face and body.”
