‘Stand with Rob’ sells stew to help paralyzed Richmond man get walking system updates

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A fundraiser selling stew ahead of the big game helped a Richmond man raise money for updates to his walking system.

On Saturday, Feb. 10 at noon, the Stand with Rob organization held an event selling ‘Uncle’s Brunswick Stew’ to fundraise $7,500 for 28-year-old Rob Drescher, who was born with a rare disease that eventually paralyzed him at age 14.

In May 2019 , a ‘Stand with Rob Fun Walk’ event was held at the Southern Railway Taphouse which enabled Drescher to raise $90,000 to purchase an Indego Robotic Walking system to walk.

Money raised during Saturday’s event would go towards new feature updates, software and additional training for Drescher’s Indego walking device.

Cups of stew were $10 per quart and the event also offered cornbread, Irish coffee and Bloody Mary drinks.

As of Sunday, Feb. 11, the fundraiser has surpassed its $7,500 goal.
