Police remove car from James River in Richmond, launching investigation

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A car was removed from the James River by the Richmond Police Department early Monday morning, prompting an investigation.

At 4:23 a.m. Monday, Feb. 12, Richmond Police and the Richmond Fire Department were called to the 7900 block of Riverside Drive for the report of a vehicle in the James River.

Upon arrival, officials found a silver sedan in the river. The Richmond Fire Department Water Rescue team responded and checked the vehicle and the nearby area.

No one was found in the sedan and the vehicle was removed from the river. Police said no one was present in the area.

Police continue to investigate the incident. Anyone with information is asked to call the Richmond Police Department at 804-646-5100.
