‘If he hadn’t come out, who knows what would have happened’: Friend of defendant in George Wythe shooting testifies

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — It is the third day of a jury trial for a former George Wythe High School student who is facing multiple charges related to the shooting of two teenage boys outside of the school on April 27, 2023 .

On Wednesday, Feb. 14, the jury trial continued for 19-year-old David Gutierrez, who is facing five charges in connection to the double shooting outside George Wythe High School on April 27, 2023.

The court process was briefly delayed Wednesday after defense motioned for a mistrial. Some people in the courtroom who spoke both English and Spanish expressed concern over whether or not witnesses who didn’t speak English were given proper translation during questioning.

The judge ultimately denied that motion and the defense continued calling witnesses, which included Gutierrez, his brother and his close friend, Christian Juarez.
