Former Henrico daycare teacher faces up to 2 years behind bars after 2 boys went missing under her care

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Months after a Skipwith Academy daycare teacher was fired after two 3-year-old boys went missing in their care, the teacher is facing multiple charges.

In December , 8News spoke with Tracy Dickerson, a mother of a child at the daycare, after learning two toddlers wandered away from a Henrico daycare following an outdoor activity.

A spokesperson from Skipwith Academy previously told 8News they deeply regret the incident and launched a full investigation. Since then, the Henrico County Police Division has charged Shameka Scott with two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor for the two students.

“With those two charges is that the maximum possible penalty would be 24 months in jail. And that obviously would be very serious. I candidly don’t expect that that’s what will happen,” said 8News legal expert Russ Stone.

After the incident, a spokesperson from the daycare told 8News they would evaluate their policies and procedures. Also, a temporary fence was installed to prevent another incident like this from happening.
