The elevator metaphor still baffles Prince fans eight years after his death

Did the elevator bring him down?

Had Prince Rogers Nelson lived, he would have turned 66 on June 7 this year. The singer gave many concerts in Virginia during the 1980s, including in Richmond, Roanoke, and Hampton. I was fortunate to see him twice, and he was quite the showman. His death still haunts many of his fans, especially the mystery of the elevator.

On April 21, 2016, the iconic entertainer was found dead in an elevator at his Paisley Park Minneapolis home. I recall vehicles playing Prince’s music across the Commonwealth for weeks after his death; Producer LA Reid said on CBS This Morning that Prince told him the elevator was the devil.

Did Prince go to that higher floor?

Far Out Magzine went a little deeper, stating that Prince said his hit song Let’s Go Crazy was about the battle between Christ and Satan and that the elevator was the devil.

Prince wrote the song in code because record producers did not like religious material. At the song’s end, Prince says, “Hang tight, children, “He’s coming, He’s coming,” referring to the second coming of Christ.
