Severe thunderstorm warning was issued in several central Virginia counties

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for several central Virginia counties, according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the following areas until 9 p.m. on Sunday, June 30:

  • City of Richmond
  • Chesterfield County
  • Charles City County
  • New Kent County
  • Henrico County
  • King William County
  • Hanover County

Possible hazards included strong wind gusts, hail, as well as damage to trees and powerlines.

According to the weather service, residents were advised to move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.

A severe thunderstorm watch was issued for all of central Virginia until 11 p.m. on Sunday.
