Some Virginians say Will Smith and Kirk Franklin’s BET Awards performance was inoppropriate

Will Smith debuted a new song Sunday night

Sunday night, Will Smith performed his new song “You Can Make It” at the BET Awards. He was joined on stage by Gospel Singer Kirk Franklin. while the crowd shouted and clapped, some Virginians were expressing their disappointment on socila media.

L Prescott found the “Friday & Sunday Service Choir” singing about God with images of hellfire all around were troubling. He said it was blasphemy and wondered why they could not have more uplifting images.

Was the performance blasphemous?

J Hamm said she stopped watching the BET Awards because of how they had changed, and S Johns said Franklin had betrayed his faith. He compared the performance to a Dallas Cowboys fan singing the praise of his team while wearing Wasdhington Commander gear.

According to G Pendleton, Franklin is supposed to be preaching the dangers of hell and his choir singing the praises of the Almighty. She said instead, on Sunday night, they were really giving their praise to the other team.
