Severe thunderstorm warnings issued in Central Virginia localities

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued severe thunderstorm warnings in some Central Virginia localities.

Per the NWS, the following localities are under a severe thunderstorm warning until 8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 2:

  • Richmond
  • Hopewell
  • Colonial Heights
  • Petersburg
  • Henrico County
  • Chesterfield County
  • Charles City County
  • Prince George County
  • New Kent County
  • Lunenburg County
  • Nottoway County
  • Dinwiddie County
  • Amelia County
  • Brunswick County
  • Sussex County
  • Surry County

A warning of this nature means that one or more severe thunderstorms have been spotted in or near the affected areas by the NWS.

These storms have the potential to cause damage to powerlines, trees and more, depending on the strength of its wind gusts.
