Honorary street sign unveiled in Richmond for local entertainer, social justice activist

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — An honorary street sign was unveiled on Richmond’s Hull Street corridor on Saturday for a local entertainer and social justice activist.

On Saturday, Aug. 3, the JXN Project was joined by several officials, including City of Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney, to unveil the “August Moon Way” honorary street sign, located at the intersection of 12th and Hull streets in Richmond.

According to a spokesperson for the event, the honorary sign pays a tribute to the late father of JXN’s co-founders, Enjoli Moon and Dr. Sesha Joi Moon, and is located where the entertainer and talk show host was born, raised and anchored his life’s work.

Sidell L. Brittin, daughter of August Moon, said some of his accomplishments included helping to stop violence in the community and creating a music track that was sampled 48 times by major song artists.

“I think [this event] just means that he wrote history. That everything that he worked so hard for [has] paid off,” Brittin said. “Even if he wasn’t able to see it here in the flesh, he’s seeing it in his spirit.”
