Gov. Youngkin orders flags to be lowered in memory of WWII soldier

RICHMOND, Va. (WAVY) — Gov. Glenn Youngkin has ordered all Virginia and American flags to be lowered to half-staff on Wednesday in memory and respect of a World War II soldier.

U.S. Army Sergeant Mayburn L. Hudson was killed in action on Aug. 7, 1944 while serving in Northern France when his unit came under heavy fire, from German forces, near Saint-Malo, in Brittany, France.

His remains were accounted for by the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency on Dec. 14, 2023 after they were exhumed from U.S. Military Cemetery in St. James, France in June 2019.

Hudson’s remains will be buried in his hometown of Lynchburg.

Flags will remain at half-staff until sunset.
