RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Gov. Glenn Youngkin declared a state of emergency in Virginia on Tuesday due to the approach of Tropical Storm Debby .

This declaration was made on Tuesday, Aug. 6, based on forecasts from the National Weather Service and National Hurricane Center, according to a press release from the governor’s office. Said forecasts reportedly indicate the tropical storm will bring heavy rainfall and flooding throughout all of Virginia.

Declaring a state of emergency allows Youngkin and his administration to use certain resources and equipment to aid in response and recovery efforts.

“While the track of Tropical Storm Debby is still uncertain, it appears increasingly likely that Virginia could see impacts and therefore must prepare for the possibility of flooding, high winds and potential storm surge that could come along with a tropical storm or hurricane,” the office said.
