Richmond begins Phase II of Canal Walk Improvement Project

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The Richmond Department of Public Works has begun Phase II of the Canal Walk Improvement Project, which is intended to improve accessibility to the popular pedestrian path.

According to the department, the project entails improving the pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure on the south side of the canal, as well as the pedestrian bridge crossing near the intersection of South 15 Street and Dock Street.

The improvements will include ramp extensions, erosion and sediment control, retaining walls to support the embankment along the ramp, landscaping and a shared use path.

Weather permitting, the project is expected to be complete by early 2025.
