Richmond rolling out 9 more safety cameras in school zones

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The city of Richmond is expanding its safety camera program, adding nine additional speed cameras to school locations.

The new cameras will roll out on Monday, Aug. 12, joining the four existing cameras at the Patrick Henry School of Science and Arts and Linwood Holton Elementary.

The goal is to reduce speeding in the high-injury network areas, according to Andy Boenau, Richmond’s Department of Public Works Transportation Engineering Program Manager.

“The big picture is citywide: we have a speeding problem,” Boenau said.

Which Schools Are Getting Cameras?

The new speed cameras will be installed at the following schools:

  • Boushall Middle School
  • Swansboro Middle School
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School
  • Lucille Brown Middle School
  • Westover Hills Elementary School
  • Huguenot High School
  • Frances W. McClenney Elementary School
  • River City Middle School
  • Mary Munford Elementary School

The city plans to eventually have safety cameras at 13 total schools.
