Richmond Metro Zoo offers an Orangutan Experience

The name orangutan – from Malaysian – means man of the forest, but these gentle red-haired primates are endangered because men from cities are destroying their habitat to plant trees that produce palm oil. On average, 2,000-3,000 of them are killed each year, and experts figure there are fewer than 70,000 left in the world – living in the rainforests of Borneo and Sumatra.
