Mobile Soul Sunday to be held in Petersburg with food, art and music

PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) — Mobile Soul Sunday is heading to Petersburg. 8News spoke with the Mayor of Petersburg and a co-founder of the Virginia Black Restaurant Experience to learn more about the event.

Mobile Soul Sunday will take place from 2 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 18 at the Petersburg Union Station, located at 103 River St., with food, art and music.

Shemicia Bowen, co-founder of the Virginia Black Restaurant Experience, said Mobile Soul Sunday will feature 10 Black-owned food trucks, an art walk and marketplace, a children’s bounce house and more.

“It is a perfect fusion of art, history and culture,” Bowen said. “We have some amazing things set up for this Sunday and I’m really excited to be bringing it to my rooted city of Petersburg.”

Samuel Parham, Mayor of City of Petersburg, said the event is important because of how small businesses are the backbone of Petersburg.

“We’ve been on a roll — we’ve had eight straight years of solid business growth,” Parham said. “And this event is another avenue to help people explore their dream.”
