‘This is your sign!’: RACC at capacity, doing no-fee adoption this weekend

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Richmond Animal Care and Control (RACC), which is currently full of dogs in need of homes, says “this is your sign” if you have thought about adopting a pet.

With over 60 dogs in their care right now, they’re in need of adopters or foster homes and have a great deal this weekend. RACC outreach coordinator Robin Young said she believes the lull in adoptions has to do with summertime and people going out of town more.

RACC, located at 1600 Chamberlayne Avenue, has been full all summer. To try and alleviate that, they have an no-fee adoption special this weekend.

“That includes [the cost of] spay or neuter, they’re microchipped and they’re up to date on vaccines,” Young said. “We definitely have some cuties here.”

Young says there’s been an increase of strays coming in and Richmond residents have been giving their dogs up to the shelter. Young also said Richmond Police officers have also been doing a “great job of investigating cruelty and neglect.”

“We’re hoping with an adoption special this weekend [and] summer starting to wind down, that people are ready to adopt,” she said.
