PETERSBURG − A shooting in the city’s Battlefield Park area has led to the city’s eighth murder of the year.
Police said Jodeci Taylor, 28, was shot in the stomach shortly after noon Saturday in the 3100 block of Gordon Drive. He was taken to Bon Secours Southside Medical Center where he later died.
Cavonte Cooke, 25, has been charged with first-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He is being held without bond at Riverside Regional Jail in Prince George County.
A motive for the shooting was not released.
The shooting comes four days after a 2-year-old boy was killed in a residence on Grove Avenue. Two suspects, including the victim’s mother, were arrested for his murder.
