Beginning in the fall of 2025, admitted students from Virginia whose parents earn a combined total of $75,000 annually or less will qualify for free tuition at the University of Richmond as part of the school’s “Richmond’s Promise to Virginia” initiative.
UR began a program to assist qualified students from Virginia in the 2006-07 school year, at which time the income threshold was $40,000. School officials raised the threshold to $60,000 beginning in the fall of 2014.
“We want to reduce financial barriers so that exceptional students at all points of the income distribution can envision themselves as Spiders,” said University of Richmond President Kevin F. Hallock. “We enthusiastically welcome talented students without consideration of their financial circumstances, and we are committed to ensuring all families can see a Richmond education as not only excellent but affordable.”
The program, which covers tuition, housing and food, has helped hundreds of Virginia students attend and graduate from UR. Since it comes in the form of a grant, it does not need to be repaid. UR spends more than $90 million annually on university-funded aid.
