Flash flood warnings, flood watches issued for multiple Central Virginia localities

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Flash flood warnings and flood watches have been issued for multiple Central Virginia localities on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, Aug. 28, several Central Virginia localities could experience flooding, per the National Weather Service (NWS).

A flash flood warning means that thunderstorms capable of producing heavy rain that could lead to flooding have been seen on radar.

According to the NWS the following Central Virginia localities are under a flash flood warning until 6:15 p.m. Wednesday:

  • Chesterfield County
  • City of Richmond
  • Henrico County

In addition to these flash flood warnings, many counties and cities are under a flood watch. These localities could potentially see flooding.

The following localities are under a flood watch until late Thursday night:

  • Amelia County
  • Cumberland County
  • Dinwiddie County
  • City of Colonial Heights
  • Essex County
  • Henrico County
  • Hanover County
  • Louisa County
  • Fluvanna County
  • Goochland County
  • Nottoway County
  • Powhatan County
  • Prince Edward County
  • Prince George County
  • City of Richmond
