Chesterfield Fair responds to weekend violence: No nighttime visits for unaccompanied kids

CHESTERFIELD – Following last weekend’s fights that left 13 people injured and four others arrested, the organizers of the Chesterfield County Fair have put guardrails around juvenile attendance for the remainder of the event.

Starting Thursday, no one under the age of 18 will be permitted to enter the fairgrounds without a chaperone after 6 p.m., the Chesterfield County Fair Association announced in a statement Wednesday afternoon.

Stipulations also have been placed on who is considered a “chaperone.” CCFA said they must be at least 21 years old, present a valid identification at the gate, be available by phone, stay with their group for the duration of the visit, and allowed to lead no more than four youths.

“The chaperone requirement applies to all fair patrons under the age of 18,” the CCFA statement read. The word “all” was printed in uppercase letters.
