McShin Foundation celebrates 20th annual Recovery Fest

Richmond, Va. (WRIC) – The McShin Foundation celebrated its 20th annual Recovery Fest on Saturday, Sept. 7.

The event highlighted the strength and resilience of those in recovery.

“We want to show that recovery can be fun and fulfilling, and that we can enjoy life without substances,” said McShin Foundation CEO Honesty Liller.

The festival featured a range of activities including live music, food trucks and games — all designed to bring the recovery community together in a joyful and supportive environment.

“It shows individuals in recovery or seeking recovery from substance use disorder how to have fun without drugs or alcohol,” Liller explained.

The festival featured a range of activities including live music, food trucks, games, 40 vendors and recovery resources.

Dannisha Walker, a member of the McShin Foundation, shared her journey at the event.

“After I turned about 17, I started using alcohol and drugs, and it took away ten years of my life,” Walker said.

She found recovery at a similar community event the McShin Foundation was holding in 2023, now she said she’s over a year and a half sober.
