RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The Richmond International Dance Festival took place on Saturday, bringing together people and cultures from all over.
People visited The Steward School from noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7 to attend the Richmond International Dance Festival. The free event included vendors, dance workshops, food and much more.
Vida Opokeu — a vendor of hand-made clothing at the festival — spoke to 8News about what events like this mean to her. According to Opokeu, around 400 people were in attendance to enjoy the festivities.
“This is the time that we get together, we bring our culture, you know, the way we dance, the way we eat, it gives us a lot of meaning,” Opokeu said. “Like today, it’s a special day for us and we are very grateful to be together. So it’s just to remind ourselves who we are and who we are here for.”
