Virginia Tech bounces back from week one loss with 31-14 win over Marshall

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Bhayshul Tuten rushed for 120 yards and a touchdown, leading Virginia Tech to a 31-14 win over Marshall on Saturday.

Kyron Drones added a rushing touchdown and a passing touchdown for the Hokies. They were only up by a field goal at halftime, 10-7, but exploded in the second half, scoring on their first three possessions after the break.

“We wanted to make them stop us, and we did just that,” Tuten said. “It worked. I got going, Kyron got going, and Mal (Malachi Thomas) got going. We needed it.”

Tuten scored a 1-yard touchdown to start the second half, giving Virginia Tech a 17-7 lead. Marshall responded with an 18-yard touchdown pass to make it 17-14. But Drones scored on a 3-yard run, and then threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Da’Quan Felton in the fourth quarter, stretching the lead to 31-14.

Tuten’s game was his fifth 100-yard rushing performance at Virginia Tech and the 15th of his career. Virginia Tech ended with 208 rushing yards.

Marshall, which had 549 yards in their season opener, was limited to 278 yards in this game.
